Heterosis study for yield and yield attributes in pearl millet [Pennisetum glaucum (L.) R. Br.]

The present study was undertaken to assess the magnitude of heterosis 28 hybrids derived from eight parents pearl millet through diallel mating design excluding reciprocals. Hybrids exhibited low high significant mid parent heterosis, heterobeltiosis, and standard in desired direction for all traits except days flowering as well number effective tillers per plant. hybrid 17548 × 15388 manifested economic desirable grain yield plant with height, test weight protein content. cross 15851 15725 also showed heterotic over check like flowering, maturity, harvest index weight. heterobeltiosis ranged -58.60 350.02 cent, while -61.30 48.72 cent. highest recorded by viz.15058 15058 ×15388.
